Which author's "The Fall" should I be looking for? There's quite a few books by different authors under that name.

I'll check them out

I know a few people who have this book (and don't read) so I think I'll be a cheapskate and ask if I could borrow their copy.

I've heard good stuff about Ligotti before actually. How is his other works?

Already got those, I picked up Lovecraft, Poe and MR James in these hardback compilations of their works for each author. I love it when publishers put out a complete body of work in one nifty hardback.

I've always wanted to read that. I'll have to check it out, but to my knowledge it's currently out of print.

Are you referencing House On The Borderlands or Naked Lunch?

I picked that up when I was 16 and really struggled with the prose. I should try revisiting it sometime. I remember reading that Burroughs had written the novel but then decided to re-arranged segments of it in what I think got called the "cut-up" method.

>>5176902
Oh cool, I'll probably really enjoy it then.

I'll check these out, thanks, guys.

Also thinking of other books I've read I've found unsettling" Ryu Murakami books are quite disturbing, imo. Audition and In The Miso Soup were genuinely unsettling, and not just for the grotesque detail in violence (the books have that element of shock value, but I feel there's more substance to them than that), but also there's a genuine uncertainty with how far the protagonist is going to go along with the antagonist, and how disturbingly close their relationships become in both books.

Also I recently bought House On The Borderlands but it's yet to arrive. What do you guys think of it? I saw it was an essential on the /lit/ essential page but I was wondering if you guys would consider it still relevant in terms of disturbing literature?

What's the most unsettling book you've read, /lit/?

I know this'll be a bit of an entry-level choice, but for me H.P. Lovecraft's Call Of Cthulhu really unnerved me when I first read it at 15. At that age, I found it hard to believe - ignorant, really - that literature would be unable to disturb me like that novella.

>Sexist troll are trying to sabotage my feminist book.

Is troll singular? As in, there is one troll sabotaging her feminist book? hmmm. Her use of 'are' would imply the plural, but as she has an English degree from Oxford and writes for some major tabloids, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps "sexist troll" is the name of a Norwegian metal band; would that make sense? "[the Norwegian metal band] Sexist Troll are trying to sabotage my feminist book?"

SO YOU THINK THAT I'M A RETARD?
WELL I'LL HAVE YOU KNOW
WHEN I WAS IN SCHOOL IT WASNT HARD!
RATHER SMOOTHLY IT DID FLOW

I WAS RAISED AS A BAPTIST
LEARNED ABOUT JESUS EVERY DAY
HE HAS A GOOD AND BAD LIST
SO I THINK YOU MIGHT NEED TO PRAY

I FUCKED YOUR MOM LAST NIGHT
SHE HAD AN ORGASM FOR OVER AN HOUR
I MUST ADMIT IT WASN'T A DELIGHT
HER PUSSY IS KIND OF FUCKING SOUR

HOW DARE YOU BASH MY RYHME
THE BEAUTIFUL POEM I HAVE MADE
YOU HAVE COMMITTED A MASSIVE CRIME
AND FOR THAT YOU MUST BE FLAYED

How hard is it to write a poem?
Does it even have to rhyme?
Does it have to tell a story?
Or just merely pass some time?

Can I write about the pirates?
Sailing the great blue sea
Or maybe about an astronaut
In a place without gravity?

Do I have to make it happy?
Or can I make it sad?
It might just turn out sappy
Which would be really bad.

I could write about a little snail
Or perhaps a Buddhist monk
I could tell the story of a man in jail
Or about a really angry skunk

I could recount the story of Noah
or perhaps the Battle of Troy
I could write about the Islands of Samoa
Which is a place I'd rather enjoy

Those islands seem great for fishing
for boating and swimming too
I would like to go to Samoa
And sip on a Samoan brew.

I seem to have gone off topic
It is a thing I sometimes do
But if you do not like it
Then why don't you go read something new.
