>But somehow you manage to get yourself an epic fail well below 50% lulz.

>Implying anyone on /lit/ is going to take you seriously when you write like a twelve-year-old.

I lol'd.

Honestly, not much. I'm a rising junior at a well known college and am a Creative Writing major. I had a pretty damn good reference and solid computer skills, which they look for, plus a history of writing extracurriculars, but besides that, I can't really say why they chose me. That's why I recommend trying to anyone who's interested (and is in college, I guess).

It is a sweet job. Amazing contacts, a relaxed work place, awesome perks (book-signings and meet-the-authors, plus all the free books you could ever want).

Go for it. It can't hurt to try.

>I bet Hubbard isn't so boring.

Whoops, fix'd.

Oh, I really don't mean to come off as sounding pissed at Random House. I love my internship, actually, and the people there are super nice. We all gossip about how ridiculous these manuscripts are, and even talk about real, established authors they know personally.

Slush is just awful. It's a part of my internship, and I accept that. It makes it easier to deal with when I share it with others, like you fine /lit/erati.

But yeah. Awesome internship is awesome. Crazy slush is crazy.

My supervisor would remember, unfortunately. Still, this is a definite reject, though I feel obliged to at least the entire manuscript. Luckily, it's only 200 pages.

Still, this guy is crazy. He claims that the world will be enveloped by a shell of asteroids, which will change the direction of the sun's reflection and cause massive climate change. I can't help but wonder if this is what it feels like to read L. Ron Hubbard, science fiction parading itself as science.

I bet Hubbard is so boring, though.

Christ on a stick guys, I'm only 35 pages into this manuscript and it's already one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read.

Based on the 2012 myth, this guy is talking about realistic ramifications of the world ending in two years. His analysis basically comes down to COMETS, COMETS EVERYWHERE. Also, the sun is going to rise and set in reverse. How does he know this? Because "lol the Ancient Egyptians said it happened so it must be true, amirite?"

Not only that, but the writing is so dull I can barely concentrate. You'd think something about the end of the world would be more interesting, right? Well, you'd think wrong.

I feel like I'm getting trolled, but I'm not, and that's kind of terrifying to me.

Be back soon. I'm getting to the part about how the military has to stay together so that other countries don't take advantage of the USA's weak position while the world is being ravaged by hurricanes and tsunamis.

I plan on it. I'll probably post a thread about it tomorrow after I've finished reading it and writing my report.

This might actually be shit-tier. Get excited, e/lit/ists.

Fuck /lit/, I'm so fucking tired.

Okay. So, first responding to a question from last night. Someone wanted to know my ethnicity. I don't know why it matters, but I'm white.

Today was kind of a slow day, since the summer schedule at Random House has everyone leaving at 1 pm. Wasn't enough time to read a manuscript, so my supervisor took me through all the steps of actually publishing a book (acquisition, marketing, reprinting, etc.).

However, I did take a manuscript home with me to read over the weekend, Looking at the cover letter, I think this author is out of his fucking mind. He seems to actually believe the world will end in 2012, and his book is about how to "realistically" survive the upcoming disaster. In his own words, he hopes that I will agree "that this book is of substantial value to individuals, businesses, and governments worldwide, and can positively affect human lives."

Jesus Christ, I can't decide if I'm excited or dreading to read this.
