It's one of those instances where you realize that what you're trying to do is a horrible fucking idea, right in the middle of doing it, so he really only had two choices to make: either to stop immediately, and deal with cleaning up, along with what to do with all the mutilated books; or to see it through to the end, and at least get some karma for it (literally and figuratively).

I've only started to collect books recently, and I haven't come across any silverfish, nor spiders. Are these pests really that common with people who have old books? Or is my collection not large enough?

I suppose that you do have a point, but the libraries I frequent only have romance novels in their stocks, so I guess it's just a matter of convenience to me. The used bookstores near me overcharge for everything, too.

I might just go ahead and take the plunge, then make a thread about it sometime in the future, for you guys. The not-knowing-what you're-gonna-get aspect of it is pretty enticing.

This company's been doing this for years. How come this has never been talked about on here, given how frugal some of us are? Are these books they send you, unreadable,or something?

Anyone on here ever bought a box of books from Books By The Foot? How was your experience, and what did you get?

If you don't know what it is, it's this company that sends you a box of books for a flat rate: it's $16.99 for genre fiction shit, but you can choose other subjects like 'classics,' and 'sci-fi' for $13 extra. Is this a good idea to spend some pocket money on? $29 + S&H sounds like a pretty good deal for a box that contains ~75 books.

Try to publish something before you're released. Dead men's works are worth more.

How did you accomplish all that?

Sorry to break it to you, OP, but only attractive people get away with this kind of shit.

I had this experience in my AP Lit. class a few years back, and the Stacy who did her powerpoint on the same book got nothing less than praise from everyone. I don't know if it was just that specific class or not, but it really does seem like attractive people get away with everything.

My city college English class is just about the same: normies galore. They don't share our (/lit/'s) breadth of literary experience, so anything out of the ordinary will freak them out. That's why I tend to keep my power level under wraps when in class.

Good thing your teacher understands you, and the book you chose. You at least have some hope, and some verification that you did well on your report.

I feel like I'm the only person in the world who hasn't read 1984.

Friend, for future reference, don't ever try to be flashy with your writing here. Just ask for recommendations, right to the point.

These things won't take you seriously, and you'll only be met with hot air.

I recommend that you Baudelaire. Les Fleurs du Mal.

I've always wanted to get into using typewriters.

Are you familiar with fountain pens? If so, does the typewriting world have an equivalent to the Lamy Safari? If you're not familiar with either of which, it's basically the entry-level pen that almost everyone has who collects FPs.

"Conquered City" by Victor Serge

I've never heard of Serge before, but I couldn't pass the cool cover and the fact that the book was an NYRB on sale for $6.99 in good condition. That being said, from the first chapter that I've been able to read in this empty waiting room, I can conclude that it'll be a damn good read.

Anyone else read this?

Paulum.

I took Latin as a language course in high school, and regularly took presence as an orator when my church had its monthly masses in Latin.

It's useless, so I don't remember much Latin these days.
