>Caution: thread is full of NPCs, as signalled by short responses containing their favorite book without elaborating why or how it improved their life. I guarantee you if you ask them specifics, most of them will not have coherent response, since their programming only goes so far as to post the book title.
>It's ironic how people who mold their identity about being a reader are the ones with the least to say.

>My point has always been that the "goals and values" you profess to have are bizarre. You're in a place where normative expectations exist. Why would someone with such a hyperspecialized superautism be in this thread now communicating with us?

>I learnt about it from the Kandel textbook and I don't see the word "neuropsychology" anywhere near it
>Think about this methodologically, even ignoring research history. It's impossible to design a brain imaging experiment that would prove a double dissociation. Animal models can't be used with language. Maybe you could show something with TMS, but it's practically difficult and alternative explanations can't be ruled out. When you have two patients with opposite competences (one but not the other and vice versa), that will convince every motherfucker in the room that you're dealing with different functions.
>how so?
>When you learn a language, even through the purest input method you devise, you can't help but practice language production too. When you subvocalize during reading, that's your Broca's area firing and your production being practiced. If you want to make an argument that that anon can't speak the language, none of this stuff will help you. Efferent and afferent paths normally fire together in healthy brains.

>If any of the languages you learned aren't dead then I imagine they'd be useful for communicating with clients/colleagues in other countries.
You really need to get away from your hyper-wagie mentality man. I learn languages because I like reading. I read a lot. Some of what I want to read is not translated or translated poorly. You know nothing about my job. There are massive regional and domain differences between work cultures which you are probably unaware off. Maybe I am a rich trust-fund kid. Maybe I am on the spectrum. Maybe I have eidetic memory.
Essentially you are projecting your narrow life-experience on an anonymous stranger from a board full of autists and that is retarded. If you find not doing every little thing you can to maximize your profitability in the capitalist machine so weird, I recommend you travel and read more.

>you can't help but practice language production too
>And that's why I said I can probably speak them. Remember, speaking and reading are not either/or abilities. I can no doubt speak latin or italian to some extent, I am just uncertain to what extent my ability to speak is worse than my ability to read because I haven't had any chances to practice it.
>When you subvocalize
>I don't subvocalize. I had a speedreader autism streak and it stuck.
Both of you need to fuck off back to r*ddit.
