On a side note, I have time these days to dedicate myself to reading. Which philosophy books and authors would you say are indispensable to your worldview?

I am a philosophical brainlet who hasn't even read Aristotle's Metaphysics yet, but I want to read Hegel so I can grasp more of the first chapter of Capital. What should I read before diving into it? Is there any "chart" that can get me to Hegel without having to read the whole history of occidental philosophy? Something like beginning with Heraclitus, Aristotle, Kant, or whatever.
Also, looking for auxiliary bibliography on Hegel once I can finally begin reading it.

As someone who has fallen for the "start with the greeks" meme, I feel like I have a responsibility to tell people that it's total bullshit.

Any work of literature that requires you to know something or other before you read it is derivative trash. Some you might be able to appreciate more with a greater knowledge of literature but it's not worth it and not necessary for appreciating the work by itself. Any great work of art can stand on its own, for it's contained within itself.
