Also, most of Palahniuk's books are about forms of insanity. "Diary" and "Rant" are good examples.

I'm not a huge literature dude and my tastes are probably plebian but do you guys know any books that are in par with like Fight Club or Catcher in the Rye (loose, first-person naration type of books)?

So, do you love it or hate it?

sup /lit/, I've been thinking of going through some of the classics I never read growing up to catch up on shit I should've read a long time ago. I've heard pretty mixed reviews from people I know about The Catcher In The Rye.

I wanted to get the opinion of you guys before I delve into it.

Do you guys think it lives up to it's reputation?

How did you get into Literature? I've never read an entire book. I always hated reading through school because I was defiant and against school work and such. Books were my enemy. I've been out of highschool for a year and a half now and I realize that I've never read an entire book before, and it's kind of sad.

School starts again in August, and I'll be taking English 101. I imagine I'll be reading books then, but I'm going to try to read an entire book before then, of my own free will!

I figured I lift weights to train my body, so I should read to train my brain. First thing in the morning I'm going to the library to get a book.

I just finished The Catcher in the Rye. Honestly, I think that if I read this story a few years ago, I would be a different person today.

I am looking for my next book. I don't think I want another introspective look into my own faults. However, I don't want to read fluff.

I am asking because I have only really gotten into reading every day as of late.

Catcher in the Rye or American Psycho?
I preferred reading American Psycho because it was much more graphic and the writing was very heavily emphasized on details of the setting.

DId he really catch ryes?

This book wasn't great to begin with.
Most people who have read it were required to do so in high-school.

The year is 2010. Now most everyone who is rich and famous either 1.) had money to begin with. 2.) Is some trashy celebrity that doesn't actually do anything but show up in swim suits on magazines. 3.)Are totally phony to begin with.

So can we stop making catcher in the rye threads after this one?

Probably not.

Who else closely identifies with the main character, Holden? It's weird, we're both really detached from the world in the same way, it's kinda cool at the same time.

Why does everyone love this book? It's horrendous.
