What is /catholic/'s take on pic related and the moral dilemma it represents?

Why does God let bad things happen?

I really enjoyed the religious external and internal conflicts tackled in 'Silence'. Are there any books that have similar themes or tackle religion in a similar way (questioning their faith, religious persecution, etc.)?

So I'm somewhere around halfway through this book but one thing keeps bugging me... How do the Jesuits (Sebastian, in particular) communicate with the Japanese peasants? Nowhere was it mentioned that the Jesuits have a good understanding of Japanese but on several occasions it has been shown that the locals can barely mimic Portuguese and Latin. What gives?

I have a PDF of this book but I want to read it on my phone so I have to convert it to an EPUB file. What converter do you guys use? I tried using Calibre but it fucks up the entire formatting and structure, making it unreadable. Btw I'm using Lithium on an Android phone.

What do you guys think of pic related? From the perspective of a weeaboo, I think it summarized well many of the problems with Japanese society and how Christianity could help with them.

I bought pic related but haven't bothered to start it. Is it even worth reading? Haven't seen the film yet either.

Inoue is basically a playground "stop hitting yourself" bully.

This book blew my mind. Never been catholic but it really drives the point about faith and suffering in this world.

What do western catholics think about this book?

A necessary work written by a troubled Japanese dude. Very cool if you're into history and Christian persecution.
