Parents are always trying get books banned from school libraries and school curriculum.

Can someone explain to me what kind of fucking savage dark age these people live in that they would seriously still advocate the banning of knowledge they disagree with in the 21st century? What gets into the kind of people that would do this?

I would have liked to think the civilized world has grown past this Medieval mindset that you, "GOTTA BURN BOOKS THAT DON'T HONOR THE GOOD LORD!" It's horrifying to me that so many people still think this way.

Is Ray Bradbury too high school tier to discuss on /lit/? Is /lit/ just as elitist as it was when it started years ago?

Finished 451 a few days ago. Our teacher "clarified" that it's not about censorship, but no one thought it was about censorship anyway.

Anyway, what was your favourite secondary school book?

This won the raging palm. Then again, couldn't go very far.

"I thought this was one of the worst books I've ever read. The characters were entirely unconvincing - e.g. the professor with the strange name who can only express himself using metaphors. The plot is just a predictable and flimsy excuse for a parable about the dangers of modern society. I read it, because I'd bought it, but I found almost every word an insult to my intelligence."

I just finished reading Fahrenheit 451 and I enjoyed it very much. Any similar book that anyone could recommend would be appreciated. Also any good sci fi or fantasy books, thanks!

Hey /lit. I have to write a short story in the style of Ray Bradbury and I was hoping to get some feedback on it. Thanks!
First paragraph (I will write the rest in the comments):

Monday morning. Almost seven O’clock. As Aaron lay in his hard bed he started to wake. He felt slightly cold, but didn’t acknowledge it. He leaned over to look at his beige plastic clock, which every minute made a small change and went click, a sound so infinitesimally small. Aaron looked out the window at the other houses, the big concrete blocks just like his. He had never been to another house. Aaron smiled. What happiness in the uniformity, what happiness that nobody could look and say, “My house is better than yours.” Not that Aaron had ever talked to anyone. His voice wouldn’t like that.

The prose used and the general picture it painted, blew my mind.

Hi /lit/

I'm considering reading Fahrenheit 451 next. I liked Brave New World and loved 1984, so this seemed like a good book.

What does /lit/ think about it? Is it any good? What can i expect?

Also, I haven't actually started reading Name of the Wind, but I've heard a ton of good reviews, so I'm looking forward to it.
