I don't see why it's always 1984 this and Brave New World that. Fahrenheit 451 is the superior Dystopian.

If books were outlawed, where did all the books come from? Furthermore, how does anyone know how to read?

Sup /lit/ this past April I decided to start reading books I'd always heard about but had never had a chance to read. The first book I chose was Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, and Jesus titty-fucking Christ. I fucking love that book now.

ITT: Books you fucking love that you wish never ended.

I'm here to ask /lit/ about a great fictional book that has some connection to the Cold War.

The only one that comes to mind is 1984. Fahrenheit 451 may work as well. Even though all the books I'm picking is all about Dystopia, It doesn't have to be.

Ray Bradbury on being a Science Fiction writer.

"A conglomerate heap of trash, that's what I am.
But it burns with a high flame."

Needing a recommendation on what the fuck to read.
Something similar to The Giver, Fahrenheit 451, 1984, etc. Love those kind of books. Fahrenheit 451 is actually my favorite book at the moment. See if you can change that.

So, I've started reading this, and I feel the need to ask: does Bradbury let up on the clusterfuck of metaphors and similies, or should I just get used to them?

Evening /lit/

I wanted to know, what do you guys use to keep track of the books you've read?
For anime/manga there's a great site (MAL) to organize the stuff you've watched/read, so I was wondering if there's something like that but for actual books.

Any webistes? "My books.doc"? or good ole pen and paper?

[Pic related, the book I'm currently reading]

It's just that Science Fiction deals with the human condition in an increasingly technological world, and the human response. It's telling that many elements of older science fiction have become science fact.

Whereas Fantasy tends to deal more with shit like the Fairypeople condition in an increasingly dragon/wizard/orc/elf world, and the characters have to make their saving throws at the top of the plot arc or loose all their hit points. It's telling that many elements of Fantasy of all ages appeal to acned pubescents and fat housewives.

Fahrenheit 451 because it just gives off this vibe to me of "trying too hard," especially with the terribad extended metaphors at the end. Well just the entire last half of the book in general is bad to me. First half was good though.

Also the ignition point of paper is 451 degrees CELSIUS.

After a bout of problematic loss of reading motivation,I have decided to streamline my efforts in the pursuit of the written word.I read 1-2 longer books over 2 weeks, with a shorter book every weekend.Problem is,I'm running out of ideas for good books that can be reasonably be read over a weekend.Any help?

pic related, what I read over the weekend, and am looking for books of similar length(but can be longer)

tl;dr excellent books that can be read in a short period of time

Hey, /lit/.
I'm reading Fahrenheit 451, and I'm trying to figure out how to approach this book. What do you think the author's message is to its audience?

heyt /lit/ literally first time i've ever been on this board. leave me with a good impression.
looking for some books along the nature of like post apocalyptic or thinks that really make you look at society. like Fahrenheit 451, last book in the universe, or like virtual war.
