I set myself a target of 50k words at the start of December. I'm at 44k now and am realising I am going to need many more, probably 80k or more in total.

What is more, the bits left to write include parts that are going to be hard to write from a descriptive perspective. I am trepidatious but also losing momentum due to the shifting goalposts. My next book idea is forming, worryingly, when I write this first book.

I am so tempted to leave it for now and come back for it. Is splitting efforts between books a terrible idea?

Alright /lit/, who gave the best description of hell? Secular (e.g. I M Banks) and religious (e.g. Blake) authors both welcome.

Bonus question, who gave the best postmodern description of the inferno?
