It's entirely natural to repeat the same sin over and over. So much of sin and wickedness is built on habits that accrue over time, and habits are very hard to break. But over a significant period of time, the sin should at least lessen in regularity. Otherwise, there's the question of how serious the person is about ceasing to sin.

Benedict appointed Marx, but I don't see how you can look at Marx's subsequent career and see him as anything but an opposite to Benedict. Interesting that they're both Germans, though. Mueller is German too and he's pretty solidly orthodox.

Anon, that's what Christianity has always been, or always should be. One of the primary purposes of Christianity is to remind everyone that a purely worldly, materialistic perspective on life is flawed and sinful, because this world is fallen and corrupted by sin, and only through the Resurrection of Christ is it once again elevated to its undefiled state. This is why, for example, both communism and capitalism are vile, because they ignore the necessity for the world's sanctification.
