Made me laugh.

Anyway, I do sometimes get asked about her though.

White Teeth - fairly good
NW - okay
On Beauty - bad

Read White Teeth, then NW.

It's alright, I guess. Dunno if it's worth getting in hardcover. It's basically a book of two halves. The first 150 pages are pretty damn bad, with prose that seems like it was written by someone with (actual) brain damage. The last 150 pages are generally pretty good, with good (and valid) prose, interesting characters, a good sped-up timeline, and you get to understand things a lot better. Overall, probably worth buying.

It's been ages since I've bought a first edition, so it was extra-cool getting this. Only read about 20 pages so far. Prose is kinda awful, but I flicked through (before buying, duh) and it clears up. Some of the writing is a strange mix of postmodern and pidgin English.

My local Waterstones has White Teeth for £2.99, and I assume Waterstones generally does, for anyone who's interested. I got it for something like £6.99, and even at that price it was worth it.
