You wanna know a real meme that I'm sure many of us who studied English probably heard a million times? That CEOs of big Fortune 500 companies studied English and that's why they're so successful. That English majors are amazing at business and become successful because they're so good at communicating.
First of all, very few are actually English majors and the ones that are almost all got MBAs and then went into business.
So sick of hearing that lie when professors, who have never actually worked in industry, never had to use their English majors to get a real job, only went straight from BA to MA to PhD and then started teaching. In fact, never EVER listen to a professor about jobs with your major unless they're one of the very few ones that actually worked for a while and then went back to school to teach. They have no clue what they're talking about. If you majored in English you fucked up, and your options are basically to just apply to everything under the sun and pray you get an interview and luck into a job, or go back to school and get an advanced degree, but not in English. Because news flash: MAs in English can't get hired either.
Am I mad I majored in English? Hell yeah I am, by the time I realized how badly I fucked up it was too late, I wasn't about to change my major and start over. But by the end of my senior year I realized I was fucked. Currently in the process of looking at masters programs to apply to, probably gonna get an MBA and try and break into business.
