Anybody else read this book? I think it was almost as good as 1984, should be required reading in schools to help stave off the socialists.

I just read it a few months ago and it is as good as everyone says. As far as difficulty goes I found it pretty easy to read. If you have never read a Russian novel before the names might be tough but you will get used to it quicklu

>What do you think Paul Ryan's obsession with her work would mean if he were vice president?

>Well, you'd have to ask Paul Ryan what that means to him. Ayn Rand is one of those things that a lot of us, when we were 17 or 18 and feeling misunderstood, we'd pick up. Then, as we get older, we realize that a world in which we're only thinking about ourselves and not thinking about anybody else, in which we're considering the entire project of developing ourselves as more important than our relationships to other people and making sure that everybody else has opportunity – that that's a pretty narrow vision. It's not one that, I think, describes what's best in America. Unfortunately, it does seem as if sometimes that vision of a "you're on your own" society has consumed a big chunk of the Republican Party.

>Ayn Rand is one of those things that a lot of us, when we were 17 or 18 and feeling misunderstood, we'd pick up.

Isn't that the view of most people on /lit/? Does anyone actually like Ayn Rand?

So, what's you're general opinion on this book? Do you love it or hate it? And why?

Personally, i didn't finish it because I thought it was boring.

So, I'm gone from /lit/ for about a year, and I come back, and can't help but notice you faggots got a lot classier. It's like there was a purge or something.
What happened to all the tripfags? The high schoolers? All the preteen, Ayn Rand fangirls? I remember when every other thread was pic related.
Can't say I miss it really, it's just weird seeing such a lack of 'drama'. It's like all the ego is gone and there's a sort of void left in the community. Are we adults now?

Hello,

I am about to start reading Atlas Shrugged and was wondering if any of you had some advice.
I am somewhat daunted by the book due to its sheer size.
How would you recommend tackling a book such as this?
Also for anyone who has read it, is it worth reading?

hello /lit/, it has been a while since I've read a book, and would like to read a couple of what people would say must reads but I don't have the time needed to tackle hundreds of pages of books, what i'm asking is how good/bad is the audiobook version of a book in terms of ruining the feeling or is it too summarized? etc. pic related, one of many books i'd like to read/listen

tl;dr do audiobooks ruin a good read?

Alright /lit/, what's the deal with Ayn Rand? Some people seem to really like her stuff, but this board seems to hate her with a passion. What exactly makes her such a terrible author?

Why is Atlas Shrugged so long?
The story to me seems like something you could do in an average 300 pages.
What did she overdo?

So, I'm going to audiobook this.

Is it still relevant? Anything about it I should know before hand?
