I could understand why people don't like this book, but I'll try to make a discussion about it, see what happens.

The opening is a very good metaphor (having the protagonist sleep in the Kitchen which reminds her of the family she lost).

I do have to admit, the protagonist suffers from passive do nothing disorder, but the character of the boyfriends father is intriguing. He dressed up as a woman because his wife died and he believed that a female presence in the household is more important than a male one.

I think overall, I like the play of metaphors and the weird characters, but it's one of those stories that has the plot "The point of the story is that there is no story" which gets tiresome.

Discussion, maybe?
