No matter how careful you might be when you read, you're a liar if you say this doesn't happen to you. This is the same reason why all artistic taste that isn't based in the classics and works that have passed the test of time (like the Iliad), which is the only possible true test of art there can possibly be, is automatically utterly subjective and baseless and a result of habituation to other people's opinions and prevailing taste. There is no "individual" taste in art.

Reread your books pals! Don't just read a book once. Read it multiple times. You don't have to reread it back to back, but if you enjoy a book you should never read it only once. Don't approach reading with the attitude of checking items off a list. Read and reread. Reread books you didn't like all that much. You may find something worthwile the second time around. Reread your books guys. It's so important.
