Recently I have started to wonder if there are any interesting literary manifestations that refer to the male sexual desire to dominate and the female inclination to submission.

Obviously, Greek mythological literature refers, at least, to the inclination of powerful men to lustful excesses, but little do I remember the more "masochistic" character of females" (in more sexual terms).

Not that I'm looking for erotic literature per se, but within the western literary tradition, the canon itself, what you suggest as a reference?

I reccomend you Mircea Eliade and Joseph Campbell, theyre both dealing with mythology on more universal and theoretical level. Trust me, you won't be disappointed
