This is the book to start with OP. Short easy direct scholarly. After this move on to the Buddhism chart. But ultimately if you really want to understand Buddhism you can’t do it from reading books.

Before you inevitably post more cringe go learn more about Buddhism. Either read about it or visit a Buddhist temple and talk to their teachers. I am very sympathetic to Buddhism and your youthful excitement but please don’t make Buddhism into an other tradcath meme. Please respect Buddhism as a religious teaching and not an accessory for your identity.
