It's okay, I already know /lit/ hates me.

what is the silent hill of literature?

House of Leaves. Think of it as your own personal Twilight Zone episode disguised as a puzzle box disguised as a book.

I enjoyed this one for the first hundred pages or so, but the effort:reward ratio quickly got too big for me to bother

when I got to the page where the text wrapped in a square and I had to turn the book in circles to read it, I said fuck this and tossed it

if you need to use anything but plain text to tell your story, you probably aren't a very good storyteller

I was told this was an amazing book but

a) you need to get the physical copy for a better experience and
b) a specific edition of the hardback is preferred

can someone clarify this?

Rereading this for probably the fifth time now.

What are /lit/'s thoughts on this or Danielewski's other works - Only Revolutions and The Fifty Year Sword?

Im 100 or so pages into it. Not really feeling it and its starting to become all weird with the writing. I bought four books since than so its on my backlog

Is this a book that a beginner could read without much trouble? Also, what is your opinion of it?

really enjoyed the book though i was expecting a darker ending. looking for similar novels, not exactly in the same format but exploring darkness and particularly the wilderness, isolation and loss of sanity.

Why do people have such a boner for this book? Yeah the premise is interesting, but the whole "story in a story in a story" novelty wears off pretty fast, as the book itself is boring and bland. People also seemed to love that you had to turn the book around and hold it up to a mirror to read it. I didn't find that immersive; I found it obnoxious.

The only decent parts of the book were Johnny Truant's ramblings and The Whalestoe Letters.

Why am I so apprehensive to start this book?

I just read the intro and it spooked me out a bit.
