Ok, /lit/ I want to start reading philosophy (I've never read anything of that field). What book or author would you recommend to someone who wants to get into it? Thanks in advance bros.

No, he's an outspoken critic of the current humanities, he's calling for a restoration of the field to its pre-interpretivist era. His heart is in the right place even if he managed to shit his own project up quite a bit by locating the cause of the downfall of academia with the post-structuralists, instead of the active abuse of their thought. Derrida, who Peterson self-admittedly despises, reckons that the fate of his practice of deconstruction becoming something of a political tool in its own right (and especially to the Americans) was an unexpected and unfortunate turn of events:
>But Americans, it’s been said, often got Derrida wrong: deconstruction was never intended as a reproducible methodology, let alone a political weapon. [...] The critic François Cusset, who devoted a whole book to explaining French theory’s unlikely US success, notes the “ironic paradox that the least directly political author in the corpus of French theory (compared to Deleuze, Lyotard, Foucault) was the most politicized in the United States.” Even Derrida claimed astonishment at the way his elusive and poetic glosses on Heidegger and Husserl were refashioned into a blunt, all-purpose tool—a kind of lethal deep-reading app—wielded by Americans determined to wage war on a canon they hadn’t always bothered to read.
>"Deconstruction was becoming not only an act, an activity, a praxis, but it was becoming practicable, and, as they say in French, practical, in the sense of easy, convenient, and even salable as a commodity…. The paradox of this situation…is that what we were then trying to appropriate by making it possible, that is, functional and productive, was in any case that which had already shown itself explicitly as impossible."
Kekeke as always it's the culturally flattening tendency of burgerland that shits things up

Philosophers are just scientists and psychologists who were proven wrong at one point or another.

Reading straight philosophy is pointless. Philosophical ideas can be easily attained through fiction or plays. Philosophy that is explained through fiction and plays is more worth reading than ramblings that often come across as schizobabble; and this means the author is more talented therefore his thoughts are more worth hearing.

>I look upon these people who humble brag themselves by using big words as I look upon primitive people doing a war dance. They do this to build themselves up because they suffer from low self esteem and crave the validation and attention of others, I feel sorry for them really.

This dude has clearly never participated in a war dance. It's like an incel saying sex is a result of a lack of self control.

thank you i will. I do feel there's something more to it as I read, but in terms of actual plot its a little sparse. I'm taking a break before book 3 so i can finish the second book in Wolfhound Empire, hopefully i won't forget too much.

So guys, if you had to recommend one philosophy book what would you choose and why.

A book that stands on its own or defines a field.
