8.5 at best, and that's with a high IQ. I already appreciate the Arthurian, Biblical, Grimm-collative, Robin-Hood-Balladical, and Germanic (i.e. Norse) allusions in The Wizard Knight, but the whole thing is simply not handled in as entertaining a fashion as it ought to have been, and the pacing is very poor, especially at the end when basically the entire actuation of the plot's raison d'etre occurs in the span of five pages. Wolfe may have produced a beautiful story, but he didn't stick the landing, which of course is always the hardest achievement. I expected better from an author who had been plying his trade for 30 years before writing this book, but I was pleased that I bought it and read it.
