Came here to post this. Russell is THE reddit philosopher. Everything bad about reddit can be traced back to Russell.
>Stupid pacifism except when its against the people i hate
>"I heckin' love science!" epistemology
>Thought metaphysics is just navelgazing
>Russell's teapot
>unironic cuckold who got suicidal every time someone disagreed with him but was too much of a pussy to do the right thing

I wouldn't consider myself as middle class but I'm not a chav either. The core of it generally comes down to the use of language. Use it 'properly'. Etiquette rules are expected but not always enforced/strict - be polite. The peak of intellect is basically Stephen Fry, for a middle class npc. Your accent may be a giveaway, try to get rid of it as much as you can - don't go over the top and sound like a twat. Sandi Toksvig is american and has an extremely posh english accent which shes developed over her lifetime. I can't be sure of all the things that are necessary to know/do/believe/think etc but if you spend time around such people you'll get the gist of it. Middle class npcs are usually obsessed with prestige and like to criticise lower classes for poor taste, manners, and physical and mental inferiority. Also, they like to criticise the upper elites for moral degeneracy and corruption. Read some books on british political history and sociology of the middle class. For a more intuitive approach consume some QI, Have I Got News For You, Michael McIntyre, The Guardian, IT Crowd, Black Books, Monty Python. - and spend time with these people. There's more to it but desu middle class brits are usually just brought up 'properly', it doesn't make them smart, or athletic, or successful - although they almost all are somewhat, but I am of the belief that they are all naive to an extent and evil and soulless. Theres a letter (pic related) which describes my opinion of many middle class npcs.

In my experience, the one thing, other than accent or coming across as loud or rude, that was most notable about lower class people was that they seemed to have poor habits - lottery tickets, smoking, drinking, fast food, etc. And unlike the middle classes who read utter shit, if anything at all, they read nothing at all (in general). Middle class culture in the uk is very literary, think Cambridge Footlites/Oxford Union, the Classics. Also read dominic cumming's blog.

>As I understand it, Russell is taking the position that thoughts are cultural phenomenon and that no metaphysical "I" makes up thought. Instead the I is a manifestation of the thought zeitgeist.

Not quite. Russel is arguing that Descartes may be wrong, because Descartes assumes some "I" exists. In other words, Descartes doesn't rule out the possibility of thoughts occurring without a thinker.

If we break down Descartes' argument into modal logic, we have:

1) There are thoughts.
2) Thoughts imply a thinker.
3) Therefore, there is a thinker.

Russel affirms (1), and disputes (2). The burden of proof is on Descartes to provide a justification for (2), but Descartes takes it more or less on faith.
