i just had an unexpected proustian flashback early today. i was heading into the bathroom to take a shit, and it's unseasonably hot and humid today, and i was shitting later in the day than usual so it was quite sunny, and the dry soap smell coming out the tub with the humid air and the slight chill of the floor and the feel of a book in my hand transported me back to my parents house in new england on a hot muggy new england afternoon where i would read something nerdy like the ad&d second edition players handbook looking at the charts and tables for the different character classes as i shat, and after a brief half a second i was back here on the edge of a city holding a statistics textbook full of charts and tables as i proceeded to shit on a hot afternoon. it was like the 20 years in between hadn't even happened and this was the next day after last. highly comfy experience t b h and i'm sure when i eventually retire i will still spend hot summer afternoons shitting and reading books filled with autistic charts and tables as well, but only time will tell what books they'll be.
