The professor said that the literary consensus if it made sense could still remain the consensus and would overrule the meaning of the author.
It was at that point I realized that most if not all literary scholars, and most likely scholars of film or music or art were totally 100 percent full of shit.

I have done something similar. Last month I started waking up an hour earlier to read before going to work.

Remember the average person reads 0 hours a day, so I was one hour a day above the average person.

I multiplied this out and realised I was reading 365 hours a year more than average.

This makes me so patrician I don't even need to read anymore. In fact I've started going to the gym in the morning instead.
