Has anyone read Vineland recently? I have a theory and I wonder if it can be corroborated without my going back to it. In my opinion at the end of the book it seems like the all main characters excepting the anime-duo characters who specifically help restless souls. Problem is I'm not exactly sure when the characters died
I suppose I could just re-read it but I'm interested what anons have to say.

What did people think of Vineland? Is it a slow burner or just slow? I'm reading another flashback from Takeshi and I'm losing interest. He's not my favourite author but every Pynchon novel I've read so far has been enjoyable. Would be a shame for this one to be a dud.

My third favorite Pynchon after M&D and GR

Did anyone else who actually read this and Infinite Jest feel like DFW was attempting to show Pinecone "how it was done" after reading and hating it?

They both heavily involve drugs, TV, dysfunctional families, government hijinks, and constant flashbacks. Infinite Jest was more highly stylized with the effect flipping between the endnotes and main text had and the nonstandard presentation, but after reading both it felt like an attempt at redoing many of the same ideas.

So is this supposed to be his worst book by far? I just started it recently and it doesn't seem that bad. Definitely nowhere near V. or Gravity's Rainbow but decent enough so far.

Just picked this up at a book drive

I've only read Lot 49 (and enjoyed it) and I've heard that Vineland is best enjoyed after reading some of his other work

Would it be better to read V or Gravity's Rainbow before diving into this?

Anyone else read this, and just not feeling it?
It read like a bad mix of the best parts of V. and Inherent Vice.
Not that it itself was bad, just kinda meh.
I actually had put it down a few nights ago with only about ten pages left (Brock and Vato and Blood all together), and wasn't even motivated to finish it until earlier today.
Wouldn't recommend, would tell someone to read V. instead.
