Just bought Larry Niven's Ringworld, then realized it's the second book in the "Known Space" line. Do I need to read Protector first?

I'm not no book reader, so if I read a book I will make a thread about it on 4chan.

I read Ringworld. Damn this is dated. I don't know if I am retarded of the writing is shit, but half of the time I could not comprehend what was happening as it was described, especially how the environment looked like.
The luck of Teela Brown plot device was eye-rolling. I hated it.
Speaker-to-Animals is like a caricature of every alien/fantasy warrior-race
I know there are direct sequels to this but I don't think I want to continue

But I don't know, you tell me - was it any good?

How does someone with no scientific training go about researching for a Sci-Fi book?

I started reading Ringworld, and this is weird to say but I have a hard time seeing Louis as Asian. I can't help but picture him as the guy who played Han Solo in the spin-off Solo movie. Anybody have a similar issue while reading a book?

I don't how to properly articulate the desire, but I'm heavily drawn to stories about big empty ancient worlds that feel fake and off-kilter.
Any suggestions? There's far too little I've found of this type of setting to sustain me.
It doesn't necessary need to be that exact setting, but the feeling of it is what I enjoy the most.

This is for the guy who asked about Ringworld last week. I read it so here is my review.

I would say it's worth a read. It's kinda slow to start out but it gets interesting as they venture into space. The last 50 pages however were a let down and the ending felt rushed. There are also quite a few times where I had no idea what was going on and had to read a paragraph two or three times. Other than that it's a fun book.

I'm feeling a strong 6.5 to a light 7.

Anyone ever read this? I just started today and the 3 legged alien is cute. Is it worth anything though?

I'm writing massive space opera and I'm just consuming everything that's must-read, in order to build my repertoire.

Thoughts on this? Here are mine:
>90% of the book is talking about how genetically lucky Teela, Nessus being silly and about traveling
>10% interesting shit about the history of the civilizations and exploration

It’s a good book but way overhyped. I really liked the in depth discussions of scale ans the science behind it but It’s unbearably boring in certain places imo.
