How helpful is this book really?

i am actually getting something out of it, but it is drier than the desert.

Finished picrel, I've never seen anyone taking notes as extensive as the book prescribes. Everytime I've seen this book mentioned it's just anons making the same obvious joke

I bought this book, now what ?

Just picked this up from my library, is it actually worth the read? I'm only about 12 pages in

Probably not the norm. Most people don't even really read these days, unfortunately. I'd say average. Usually I don't speed read unless it's an article or a magazine or something, but for novels, and other important books I will read analytically. Check out pic related. You want to go for quality reading, reading for true understanding, otherwise what's the point?

Check out pic related. I just started it the other day and about half way through, basically if you want to get something real out of a good book you need to put in real effort and activity. Check it out though don't take my word.

I just am unsure if this is supposed to be for all books. For instance I want to read Moby dick, should I skim it the same? Read the last couple pages? And table of contents? Are these rules applicable for fiction?
