It's either him or Joyce

You sound like a decent guy. I used to have a cat when I was growing up. His name was Raphael. He died when I was a senior in high school so just a few years ago. It was pretty sad for me because I grew up with him for almost ten years of my childhood.

Since then my parents got a new cat when I went to university, but it’s just not the same. Raphael was a very good cat and used to always leave mice on our front porch. He was a born hunter, should’ve been a barn cat on a farm.

Anons 26 or older:

Age?
What do you do?
What are you reading?
How have your literary tastes evolved since your youth/college years?

I'll start:

>29
>Public Relations
>Forty Stories, Donald Barthelme
>Used to read the magnum opus of any given author, no i read most or all of that author's oeuvre to gain more holistic understanding. Also read far more selectively (quality over quantity).

Dunno. Serious question though: if Dylan winning the Nobel Prize is inappropriate given that he's a songwriter, couldn't we say the same thing about playwrights? And yet, I'm sure many people on this board and elsewhere agree that Beckett's was well deserved and that Chekhov and Ibsen were snubbed.

>That teenager grew. He grew and he grew and he grew. He grew until he was a grown-up man. He left home and got a house across town. But sometimes on dark nights the mother got into her car and drove across town. If all the lights in her son's house were out, she opened his bedroom window, crawled across the floor, and looked up over the side of his bed. If that great big man was really asleep she picked him up and rocked him back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. And while she rocked him she sang.

Is this good writing?
