>Just be aware that there's no such thing as a free meal, you'll have to do some work too. Also, I sure hope you're not a coomer.
ah vtru, sounds likely, i think work would be a plus for me anyway. i'm no coomer! but if i was maybe this would be good practice as a coomer's retreat?

I think the resolution for the "too late to rewrite my entire personality" paradox is to, as Pindar/Kierkegaard/Nietzsche/Kafka stated is to "become who you already are". This is also the title of the book that Lipsky wrote on DFW ("Although of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself"). The common interpretation of this, very stoic, is "accept what you are", which I don't accept. I don't accept that interptation or what I was a moment ago. My setpoint is what I want to be, independent of everybody else, and when I stray from that person I don't give extra attention to it, I just continue to converge back to that (albeit blurry and patchwork) ideal. I am effectively what I want to be. That's my interpretation. I would argue it's Nietzsche's as well,
>Let the youthful soul look back on life with the question: what have you truly loved up to now, what has drawn your soul aloft, what has mastered it and at the same time blessed it? Set up these revered objects before you and perhaps their nature and their [End Page 55] sequence will give you a law, the fundamental law of your own true self. Compare these objects one with another, see how one completes, expands, surpasses, transfigures another, how they constitute a stepladder upon which you have clambered up to yourself as you are now; for your true nature lies, not concealed deep within you, but immeasurably high above you, or at least above that which you usually take yourself to be.
Unfortunately almost everything around me constantly impinges on my ability to do this, even myself, as if my Self is an Alamo, a small seed located somewhere in the front of my brain, in an eternal battle against the rest of my brain. That's not stopping me though. I can move my wrist right now if I want to, even if you can show me brainscans that it was not the seed's decision, I won't believe you. I did it because I wanted to be the person that does that.

from Focault's Pendulum,

>“Why do you call him Simon? Why does he call you Sophia?”

>“It’s a wonderful story. Did you know that our universe is the result of an error and that it’s partly my fault? Sophia was the female part of God, because God then was more female than male; it was you men who later put a beard on him and started calling him He. I was his good half. Simon says I tried to create the world without asking permission—I, the Sophia, who is also called—wait a minute—the Ennoia. But my male part didn’t want to create; maybe he lacked the courage or was impotent. So instead of uniting with him, I decided to make the world by myself. I couldn’t resist; it was through an excess of love. Which is true; I adore this whole mixed-up universe. And that’s why I’m the soul of this world, according to Simon.”

>“How nice! Does he give that line to all the girls?”
