Well, I see that my joke worked as poor bait. The main problem is that nobody knows what comparative studies are, but all comparative studies scholars pretend to know.
1) Lack of precise subject of studies
2) Lack of precise methodology
3) Lack of their own field among other domains between history of literature and criticism.
That's why Wellek, Jost, Etiemble state that our domain is in constant crisis and either it will get fused with cultural anthropology or history of literature.
I'm really not sure how to simply explain it to students expecting banal and clear information on subject.
