If you're giving feedback on covers I need some. I threw this together in a few hours, the majority of the time was spent getting the images and creating the silhouettes. The key took some time. I'm thinking about reducing the central white space by making the black circle thicker, bring the images a little closer together and have more tearing/splatter on the black.

I was also thinking about getting fancy and inverting the colors on the wolf/bird to make them seem maze-like. Maybe also finding a new image for the wolf's silhouette altogether. When I was brainstorming the cover initially I was thinking like an ink sketch feel, but I certainly don't have the artistic talent for that. Maybe fucking around in gimp with filters will let me do something to the individual pieces to give it that feel.

>Even unemployed I struggle to write everyday
I know this may sound counterintuitive, but that's because you're not writing enough. When you write a bunch you get really invested in your story. Cut out other distractions, cut out other hobbies, cut out other wastes of time and write. Eat sleep and breathe your story and you'll very easily write every day. But to start off you'll have to force yourself before it becomes second nature.

I'd agree, granted I'm biased. It allows for a sort of amalgamation of technology and nature that speaks to people who have grown up grounded in games and online interactions - I am not saying this is good or bad, it simply is. People may say that the vast majority is schlock - and it is - but its the same with romance and whatever other genre that is traditionally published. Further, its nearly 100% self published, which is the future. It may even be the present.

Anyway, chapter 66 released.

>he said waiting 3 months to edit a novel before querying it was "forever" and he wasn't going to wait
The reality is your first chapters were likely written much longer than 3 months ago and editing is a long, involved process. I don't necessarily see why waiting 3 months would be requisite to start. Part of editing is making sure your voice at the start of the book is similar to how it is at the end, so no real reason to delay that.

>Your biggest burst of followers and favorites will come in your first 10-15 chapters.
I'm going to say based on my experience that's totally wrong. As of chapter 18 I had 18 followers. A lot of people on RR won't even open up stories that are less than 100k words. Now, at almost 200k words, I've had more views in the last 3 weeks than I did in the first 3 months. That may be an exaggeration, but probably not by too much.

>yet i also see how you also state that amazon/kindle is also virtually impossible to generate profit from
That is, of course, not true. The best way to make money on something like kindle is by releasing a ton of books and the people who are interested in one will read the others because they're already paying amazon a flat fee for access. That said, the best way to make money indie publishing is to sucker people into paying you monthly via patreon. Substantially less work required to make money, ie a few chapters vs an entire novel, and some people will just start giving you a few bucks and they'll never remember to stop whether you produce content or not. Trad publishing is bad not because of pay structure - its the best they give you a big lump sum up front - but because the content they actually will publish requires mandatory diversity and coloring way, way inside the lines. Which is fair enough, publishers are in business to make money, not set trends.

I agree with this. Far better to write 500 words a day rather than do some stupid sprint in a month, but King is a great demonstration of the fact that 95% of success is just showing up. If your quantity doesn't exist, there's no quality to be found.

>not-too-on-the-nose name for the evil old man
The one over the top evil character I have I called Rudolf. When I was writing him he came across in my head as a sort of Bela Lugosi dracula vibe. Complete chewing on the scenery evil. Is it an evil name? No, not really. Basically what I'm saying is as long as the guy isn't named Pippi or something like that the name will work if the character dialogue does.

You outline isn't really going to resemble the finished product 1:1 unless you're very, very strict with how its going. Stories tend to meander a bit and preplanned plot points end up having to be changed or jettisoned entirely. Or brought back later reconfigured. When you see the plot deviating from your plan I'd recommend letting it do so or you'll strangle yourself. You've got a lot of time for revision.

Hope everyone is doing well on their projects. The only way to get it out is to just get it out. Easy parts, fun parts, and the more difficult shitty parts. Don't worry if its a bit of a mess in the draft, you've got a lot of time to get everything squared up and clean up all those loose ends.
