finally gave into all the spam and started reading it. it's so dumb and sucks if you read it quietly but if you recite it quickly it's so damn good. reminds me of the iliad and other epic poetry

The blond bear, the wilding bears in the wastes
the dancing bear shot dead. Bears that dance bears that don't.
The Judge saying that phrase seems to call attention to the man's, in some sense, rejection of him.

Why is this book so hard to follow? Feels like a fever dream.

Just finished Blood Meridian and it is probably the best book ive ever read. Im not too familiar with popular analyses but i felt that the judge serves as a symbol for a sort of universal conscience in that he beckons toward war and the darker parts of man. Like a literal judge for one to measure their morality up against. The repetition of he never sleeps he'll never die is because as a symbol he is omnipotent.

Like how did he research this book? How did he know how people behaved and acted and what things they carried with them and how they behaved with each other etc? I ask because I genuinely don't get how to authentically write about a long forgotten time like this without bullshitting the details.

I finished it and now understand why so many people treat this like the bible. give me some recommendations that are similar to Blood Meridian

Is this going to be considered a classic in 100 years?

I turn 30 this month, I’m currently going through a divorce, I hate my current city and home (LA) my 3 closest friends are moving to another state and I can’t leave until I’m licensed in my current career which will be 3-6 months. I’ll be entirely alone. I’ve struggled with alcoholism and have been in and out of AA. Currently out. All of this spells depression, disaster, and suicide. So, I’m doing everything in my power to change who I am at a core level and genuinely improve myself.

Today I was going to go to /v/ like I always would have at work, but instead I came here. I’m eating healthier, exercising daily, going to see a therapist next week. I’m trying every day to think positively and improve.
My next step is getting back into reading. Where should a man in my shoes start?

Should i bother finishing? The meandering plot is insufferable. Should i be paying heavy attention to the inane actions of the judge (he diddles boys or something)?

when does this get interesting? i'm halfway through and decided to look ahead and it's just more of nothing
