It's unfortunate that somehow Buddhism has become such a big tent since its founding that the most you can say they all have in common is veneration of a guy with a topknot.
"Becoming one with nature" is undoubtedly a Western innovation. The Buddha's original teachings were almost the complete opposite of pantheism and things like that, instead the point is to develop clarity and purity of mind to see reality precisely as it is.
Pic related is worth a read, even if it doesn't persuade you to Buddhism, it should at least correct your perspective against modern leftism masquerading as Buddhism.
