A year or so ago, an anon listed a certain specific American literary magazine as an example of a dream publication. Yesterday, a short story of mine was accepted there for publication.

Nabokov explained his inspiration being this story of a monkey who painted the bars of his cage: the work of art reflected all he could see. HH's love for Lolita (real or imagined) was a prison for him. And then for her, too.

We want to believe that there is a certain prospect in thereby there is worth in it. This is like the concept of Existentialism or rather Absurdism in Camus’ view. And yes, I really did get it for $1. All paperbacks are $1 at my local used bookstore because it's not run for profit- all proceeds go to a free library.
