Nozdryov outing Chichikov in the midst of a party in Dead Souls. Peak cringe.

Is this book worth reading even if the 2 sequels never got released? I assume it still is good but is the story at least somewhat closed off and stuff?

>Friend tells me we should start Dead Souls characters and level up to co-op together and do PvP.
>Pick up a copy.
>Game is hard as fuck, but I keep grinding souls and upgrading my gear.
>Hit him up to play.
>He meant Dark Souls, I got fucking pic related.
>He has heavy plate armor and a massive two handed sword for fighting giants
>All I have is a partially upgraded troika sled and the souls of 2,316 dead Russian peasants.

Fuck this, I hear the War and Peace jrpg is better than Dark Souls anyhow and has 700 hours of game play even before the 1814 expansion. Plus, Sonia looks like a top tier waifu. I hope the devs don't randomly completely forget about her and Nikolai 75% of the way through the story...

Now, just in case anyone is confused by what my meaning is in the title, what I'm after is a book that maybe you like and have previously enjoyed reading. If you know of a book, and you have read and liked it, then by all means post about it in the thread. What this means then is that you should not be posting any books that you did not like reading. So if you were thinking of posting a book that you did not like reading, please don't because that is not at all what I am after here. Just once again, so that there are no misunderstandings here, do not under any circumstances post a book that you do not like, here in this thread. Who knows, maybe someone will make a thread asking for books that you do not like, and you will then have a place where you can post a book that you did not enjoy reading to your heart's content. Hopefully this clears matters up somewhat, please make sure that if you do decide to post something here, that it is a book that you like, and definitely not a book that you did not, and do not, like. Alright? One more time, just so that we are completely clear and understanding of each other, please only post, if you wish to do so, a book that you like, no books that you did not like, okay?

If you were perhaps wondering what book I, your 'umble OP, have liked in the past, you need only cast your eyes over to the designated picture related area and all your queries, conundrums and worries shall be dismissed instantly.

P.S Chichikov didn't do anything wrong, my boy has an absolute heart of gold and was just trying to get by, both for himself and for his future children. Also don't worry I didn't use the P&V translation, I might be a half fuckin imbecile, but the insides of my skull aren't completely hollow

Just finished Dead Souls. Your thoughts on the book /lit/? Also There are excerpts for a part two, did gogol die before completing it? Don't see anything from a quick google search.

Im halfway through this book right now. Really enjoying it, sometimes lose concentration tho due to the disjointed narrative and like kinda erratic style. Is this Gogol's best work, what else of his should i read after this? Also can anyone recommend other authors that write a similar kind of really idiosyncratic satire with lots of wordplay and stuff
