>The analytic tradition values clarity of expression. Heidegger, however, has on occasion appeared to take an opposing view, stating for example:
>those in the crossing must in the end know what is mistaken by all urging for intelligibility: that every thinking of being, all philosophy, can never be confirmed by "facts," i.e., by beings. Making itself intelligible is suicide for philosophy. Those who idolize "facts" never notice that their idols only shine in a borrowed light. They are also meant not to notice this; for thereupon they would have to be at a loss and therefore useless. But idolizers and idols are used wherever gods are in flight and so announce their nearness.

Can the modern reddit bugmen even read this without crying for "facts" and "science"?

>The interesting question is how could the most influential philosopher of the twentieth century – and he was, just quantitatively, the most influential philosopher of the twentieth century, in terms of the effect that he had on generations of thinkers after him in different traditions – have also been a Nazi?

What might we conclude from this?

Has anyone here read a lot of Heidegger? Was it worth the effort? Did it change how you view the world?

I am afraid of wasting my time trying to understand a complicated book like Being and Time, especially with all of its technical jargon, when I could have spent that time reading a dozen or so other less-complicated but more illuminating books. Also, I am just a regular ass dude and have no plans on being a professor of philosophy so maybe it's not for me.

Anyone here have any positive experiences with reading Heidegger or did you come to the conclusion that it's too deep for you and it's better just to read fiction instead?

I used the image of Heidegger for a reason, and it pertains to his metaphysics. Can you guess what it is without sounding like a moron? I'll be surprised if you respond.
