Oh, absolutely, I agree that simplifying a text in translation is always bad, as the translation is less accurate for it, but simplifying a lucid and straightforward text that has been previously translated in a florid and stylistically inappropriate manner is not a bad thing. Accuracy is the goal. I don't have too high of hopes for the Xenophon if what has been expressed in this thread stands, but perhaps the text itself being more straightforward lends itself to being translated accurately by the Landmark people.

Call me a loser if you want, but I'll take doing what I want and being insulted over doing what other people want me to do and still being insulted for it. Men are completely desexualized, socially devalued, and increasingly economically alienated. If you look at university sex ratios its only going to get worse and I've heard for over a decade how women make a whole nickle less for every dollar a man makes but pointing out that most girls pay hundreds of dollars less in rent is sexist and discussion of men's issues that isn't strictly framed as "dismantling the patriarchy" is instantly dismissed as conspiratorial pseudo-fascism.

Just not much point in it all. Obviously sedating yourself with drugs and porn isn't the best way to cope, but what's the alternative? Should I devote all my time to a job and abs so my boss will pat me on the head and women will see me as a sexual being?

Me personally I've been getting into hiking and extremist literature.

What's a good translation of Anabasis? I see people recommending the Loeb publication of it but I don't really care about having the greek side by side.
