I admire his tenacity, and have a portrait of him on my bedroom wall. An interesting narrative near the conclusion of Justine which interested me was how, even in the sudden morality at its conclusion, the acts of evil were still built under a form of reason --- each libertine is subject to moral condemnation and being "guilty" by such a force, but still exist as justified. I also find some of the political aspects in Philosophy in the Bedroom (such as, quite literally, an argument for killing the poor, as well as the entire "Yet Another Effort, Frenchman..." pamphlet) to accompany de Sade's work as a whole: the state of Nature as a domain for power-exchanges, employing everything from birth and murderous demise under their form.
