No matter what the subject is, he will eventually start on a wholly biographical rant about how geniuses aren't respected in their lifetimes because the public is too stupid and "charlatans like Hegel", although they are popular now, will not have longlasting fame because they're dumb pseuds. The guy seemed to be genuinely narcissistic and obsessed. One can see this especially in how much he praises physiognomy despite being an ugly motherfucker; I bet he saw a chad when he looked in the mirror. Also in his essays on pessimism he just comes out of nowhere arguing that loud noise in the streets is bad and should be banned and offenders whipped. He just seems like a cranky old man; no wonder his view on life was so bleak.
