The best, the most intelligent explanation of a phenomenon is the simplest one (i.e. that takes the least amount of code do describe). Low Kolmogorov complexity = simple, elegant, intelligent, efficient. If you have a sequence like 1,2,3,4,5, and are asked to continue it, a low Kolmogorov complexity continuation would assume that it goes like 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, 10, ... and so on, i.e. all natural integers.
A high Kolmogorov complexity continuation would be something like 1,2,3,4,5,192,1123,3914,... where the n'th value is f(n-1) with f as in the image. It's a possible continuation, indeed f(0)=1, f(1)=2, f(2)=3, f(3)=4, f(4)=5 so it's consistent with the data. However, it's a retarded continuation that's way more complex than necessary. The amount of code you need to describe the sequence is way larger than that of simple 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,....
