What does lit think of The Bloody Chamber?

Best: That's difficult, but probably Wuthering Heights or The Waves

Worst: The Bloody Chamber.- Angela Carter. No contest. Probably the worst book I ever read.

I was really dissapointed in this book after having read the infernal desire machines of Dr. Hoffman.

Has anyone read other books by Angela Carter? If so are they written in the same manner as this? I want to aviod another 200 pages of expecting the next page to be better or at least nearly as good as Dr. Hoffman

The Bloody Chamber - Angela Carter, it's a set (one of my fav's) of short stories that are modern tell re-tellings of various gothic firy tales, lots of sex, gore and gothic themes, lots of fun to read.

also, theyt're more reimaginings than retellings, the stories aren't ones you'll immeditely know (they can be like old German folk tales for example rather than Hanzel and Gretal) and they often take a different direction.

would highly recommend
