This is a beautiful poem by J.R.R. Tolkien called Mythopoeia. It's long, but defintely worth your time. What do you think? What does it mean? My favorite part (obviously) is when he bashes progressives. All in lovely heroic couplets. I am posting it here because it is a shame it is not more well-known, even among fans of Tolkien.

Is he the only good/well known fantasy author or are there more people out there?

Haven't read in years and want to get more into reading now. I was thinking about reading the hobbit and lotr (never read them before). However english is not my first language. Will I be fine if I read them in english? Is it complicated english? My english skills are mediocre.

my friends keep shilling him with the excuse he is one of the best fantasy writers the world has ever known.
while i do appreciate their persistence i dont think i will like it much. i am more interested in the world magic and mysteries revolving around it than in hairy manlet feet, fat bearded midgets and pointy eared pale homosexuals. this is also one of the reasons my friends keep getting into arguments with me as i prefer harry potter over lotr. i always point out to them that harry potter was the piece of art that made rowling into the worlds best known and best selling author. if tolkien is supposedly this good (or even better) then why, including every literary work he has ever done, did he fail to reach even half of what she has with harry potter. and also to mention that rowling is a female so we get a different perspective than we would get in almost every dull book written in the last two millenia
i dont know if i should even bother as i have already seen the movies and must say i wasnt very impressed
