What is it with the Traditionalist School and Islam?

It seems like all its figures wrote about it to some extent, even the Europeans.

Repost from /b/
I've always wanted to be a writer but I haven't ever tried, give me some topics. I'll write about them and post later.
So far this is what I have from the last thread.

literature is dead, and *you* have killed it

authors don't write books anymore because of fucking idiots like you who are too dumb and too stupid to actually learn to big words. you want everything given to you. you want everything to be intuitive and idiot friendly so you can fantasize over your stupid cunt mary sues and faggoty vampires; shitty characters, terrible dialog, and awfully written stories that get praised by 14 year olds and illiterates that go to amazon and buy shitty rehashed stories with the same plot every fucking day.

your kind has ruined literature for the true of us that are still somehow left -- which is amazing when you consider how prevalent and fervent the collective's stupidity has actually gotten. it's mindboggling how you fucking retards even manage to successfully go to school or feed yourselves. you are just worthless consumer sluts getting fucked by a corporate system. that same system has also destroyed the foundations behind that hobby you pretend to love. and you're so ignorant of this blatant fact that you immediately shout down anyone who dares to bring it up.

it must be awesome to be a "modern reader"

A Scent of Vanilla

The bed stood shamefaced and bare
in the corner of the room
as the woman,
with chapped and calloused hands,
tore off the filthy sheets
that she washed only a week before.
The man turned away
from the pile of linen that rotted
between them
on the floor,
trying to ignore the alien stench
of sweat and vanilla
which seemed so sweet
the day before.

He opened a window to relieve
the traitorous air
as a single car passed;
its headlights briefly stole
through the venetian blinds
and tussled his hair,
and caressed his face,
and kissed his neck,
and slid down his chest
before silently slipping
back out the window,
leaving him blinded
and dazed
and lonely.

The scent of vanilla lingered
for but a moment more
before meandering into the open air
in search of those gentle lights
that were already miles away.
The woman's dark, desert eyes
shed no tears
as she began to scalp the pillows
that still smelled too unlike her.
The man turned toward this savage
skinning their bed to the bone,
though less viciously than before
before stopping altogether.
"So, who was on our sheets?"

And he felt a pang of guilt
as her voice unexpectedly faltered.

There are some who work in the humanities and are nonetheless very successful financially. I know numerous French literature professors with six-figure annual incomes, summer homes, etc. Granted, they hold positions at private colleges & universities that are few and thus highly competitive. With many of them, I think that with all the same skills & background but just marginally less luck, then rather than having most summers off, spent drinking expensive wines in their upstate New York summer homes, they would be working nights as a Home Depot inventory clerk because they can't quite scrape by with what they make from their community college job.

Anne Sexton - Pain for a Daughter

http://confessionsofacaffeinatedxanthochroi.blogspot.com/2009/09/anne-sexton-pain-for-daughter.html

Startling poem, not really sure how to feel though. What is this saying? The bond between mother and daughter seems like the most tangible message. Don't really know much about Sexton though. Did she commit suicide? What does everyone think of this?

That night as Will lay in his bed, he could smell smoke and hear the faint crackling of wood, he did not move. Slowly, black smoke seeped through the houses' orifices, saturating everything. The fire was slowly gaining momentum; Will could now feel the heat through the walls. He did not move. The foundations of the house began to sway back and forth, vibrating, and smoke now lingered over Wills head like floating water. He did not move. The fire was now slithering under the bedroom door, scratching at the door like a dog begging to be let in. In the moment just before the house collapsed and sent flying debris and splinters in all directions like the last breath of a dying star, Will was only filled with remorse

All grammatical errors aside, what can be done to turn this waste of breath into something maybe worthy of toliet paper?

>one almost hears the sneer in your use of 'women'

Well I certainly wasn't going to call them authors.

>also, your opinion is dumb (dumb)

My opinion is dumb times dumb?

>as if there's any chance that the majority of the population would be reading joyce?

What an awful idea...

>there's also not the correspondence between the HP/Twilight population you think there is

The first Harry Potter book was released in 1997 and was aimed at children between 5 and 12, Twilight came out in 2005, aimed at kids between 13 and 17. Who do you think those 13-17 year old kids were?

>and there's not the correspondence between HP/Twilight reader and stupid you think there is. People can like trashy shit without being dumb.

When people like exclusively trashy shit they are in fact dumb.

>In fact, expressions such as amakudaru and amagakeru** that are still used frequently today are to be found already in the Kojiki and Manyoushuu, two of the earliest written works in the language.

>To be "educated" in, say, sociology, you need only to read the field's idols (like Weber and Durkheim), mindlessly file away their ideas, and regurgitate on command. Never will your average sociologist consider questioning those ideas. It was in the textbook, so it must be true, right?

That applies to 99% of all students in all academic disciplines, correct?

I might become a Christian because, even though i've always been an atheist, I remember the Nativity play from my early days in school and I remember how romantic that story is, and how great it would be to have such a thing to believe in.
Lack of romanticism, meaning and myths in modern society makes for a really pale existence.
It would be a kind of Kierkegaardian Christianity I would aim for.

i've always defended her OP. i think it's because people are always so quick to judge her negatively. they don't get how she could love Tom or not want to leave her daughter. you become so enthralled by Gatsby the mere thought of her not being so is only made possible by her being a stupid shallow bitch.
i feel this is a flawed reading
much like the hated 'crying at shirts' scene where Gatsby shows her all of his wonderful shirts and she begins to cry into them.
i don't see this as some love note to capitalism or Daisy having a wealth fetish so much as Daisy realizing that Jay did indeed become rich enough to support her and her lifestyle yet she choose Tom out of desperation and now is stuck. she cries from regret not shallowness. she didn't have faith in Jay so now feels that she has not only betrayed him but also cheated herself out of a more complete life with Jay.

that's just my interpretation though. i feel like she is much deeper than people want to give her credit for being. they trust Nick's narration too fully.
