Denis Johnson. Similar style, but better writer.

I love the Canterbury Tales and the 1,001 Nights, but this right here is pretty badass too.

trust me. I just read it yesterday. easy, quick, absorbing as fuck, and honestly -- a hell of a good book. I'll even find a download of it for you if you like.

You know I have seen Jesus' Son tossed around as recommendations, but I don't remember the book being discussed.

Since I opened up the front page and saw no book discussions (probably trolls come out at this time, so this might be an exercise in futility), I thought I'd bring this up.

I think my main concern with the short story collection is that the religious allusions (Christ in a laundry mat, Jesus' Son being a song lyric) come off a bit shallow; however, I believe the way the prose is written to be quite good.

Emergency, and Dirty Wedding are two particular short stories I like since I feel they could be read on their own...Plus I like Fuckhead's kind of drugged disbelieving tone (not cynical) in the text.

So yeah. Discussion, maybe?

A lame attempt of popularizing Jesus.

This is plain filth and I can't believe so many people consider it literature

You could read this book in three hours...plus you can say "Fuckhead" in your presentation.

Did you like it? I thought the ending blew chunks. For a guy who has publicly advocated for a return to story- and character-based fiction, I thought he treated his characters unfairly, and contradicted the themes he had been building for the whole book with that ending.
