What is a hipster?
Hipster seems to be semantic slanting on par with geyser or slut. Now it's something you accuse some of being, a perjorative epitethet, and confusion stems from the vagueness and inconsistency of the accusation, seeing as there is no single definition of the phrase.

In my definition, hipsters are pseudo-intellectuals who cherry-pick the superficial aspects of music, books, fashion, etc. in an effort to seem more artistic, more cultured, more cutting-edge than other people. Hipsters have a certain air of unwarranted self-importance.
The problem is, hipsters aren't actually interested in any of the shit they say they are, they rarely understand the artistic and societal importance of the things they say they love. They're usually people in their tweens (age 17-24) who yearn with all their being to identify with a group.
The entire "sub-culture" (if you would call it that) of Hipsterdom is based around irony. They are constantly claiming, "I liked it before it was popular". Much of hipster culture from my experience has started implementing quips, imagery, and activities of the "nerd" or "geek" culture, claimingt that they have always enjoyed these things all along. They play retro games, wear shirts with 8-bit images and load a few 8-bit singles on their apple iPods (because owning apple devices is not mainstream). However, playing an 8-bit game without knowing the context of the game in gaming history makes you a hipster.
In the end, the best definition of hipster I have found is:
