> In 1977, a petition was addressed to the French parliament calling for the abrogation of several articles of the age of consent law and the decriminalization of all consensual relations between adults and minors below the age of fifteen (the age of consent in France). A number of French intellectuals - including such prominent names as Louis Aragon, Michel Foucault, Jean-Paul Sartre, Jacques Derrida, Louis Althusser, Roland Barthes, Simone de Beauvoir, Gilles Deleuze, Félix Guattari, Michel Leiris, Alain Robbe-Grillet, Philippe Sollers, Jacques Rancière, Jean-François Lyotard, Francis Ponge, and various prominent doctors and psychologists - signed the petition.[1] In 1979 two open letters were published in French newspapers defending individuals arrested under charges of statutory rape, in the context of abolition of age of consent laws.
Why was pedophilia less taboo fifty years ago than it is today? I mean Sartre and Foucault did this and are still respected today, but Amos Yee did the same thing a few years ago and is now viewed as an irredeemable monster. If ‘Pretty Baby’ was made today the people who worked on it would probably be thrown in prison and beaten to death. Even being attracted to 18,19,20 year-olds is frowned upon. How did we go from this to practically having contests over who hates pedophiles more?

It was said that he was big into literature, what were his favorite authors/writers? Wikipedia says he was influenced by Kafka, Dosto and Sade but literally everyone was influenced by them. Did he have any specific books he was influenced by or inspired him(no philosophy)?

>Reading Discipline & Punish
>pretty good so far
>Foucault starts making up words for slightest concepts
>BIOPOWER of the BODY and the systemization of DISCOURSE in the DISCONTINUITY of HETEROTOPIA causes HISTORICAL A PRIORI
Like i'm trying to enjoy the book but this guy writes like he's thinking to himself. It's hard to fucking go through the book and having to remeber each and everyone of these concepts he probably makes up for himself, it may seem like a easy thing to follow but he just makes up shit on the spot and then brings it up again in 30 pages. He was so insist on Derrida being hard to approach but he makes his writing so much more difficult then it needs to be.

Nice trips.

Taking over this bait thread to make something productive. Do any Foucault readers knows his exact affiliations with LGBTQ? How far left was he and how would he react to the LGBTQ community now? Did he write anything on gender/lgbtq?

Any books on becoming historian theoreticians like Foucault and Spengler? Is there some good books on anthropological/historian/sociological problems in concerns with history?

I haven't read The Decline of West although I have read some Foucault, would that be a good place to start?
