I recently went shopping for used books and the woman at the counter looked at me and asked me if I was going to be reading these books as I paid for them
When I said I would she smiled and said that's great but I couldn't help but feel she was still sceptical about it?

This is the third time it's happened and I'm really not sure what she meant by that, it's made me become very insecure now like people think I don't look like the book reading type or that I look mentally retarded?

If I'm buying books of course I'm buying them to read them, what else am I doing with them?
Has anyone else been asked this? Specifically at used book stores and charity stores? Anyone here have any insight?

The books I bought weren't anything special, they were Foucault's Pendulum, War and Peace and Blood Meridian for only $5
