Got it a while back and it has served my needs wonderfully. The paperwhite seems neat, but not enough to justify an upgrade. My kindle touch is just too reliable, damnit.

It's been stuck on the charge screen, frozen, for weeks on end now. Occasionally it'll pop back into action, but it's usually only a matter of hours before it freezes up again.

What can I do? This has completely interrupted my reading.

I have one of these babies for just under a year now, and as much as I love, and appreciate all the use I've gotten out it, the number of times freezes up, requiring me to perform a full reboot, is getting way, waaaay out of hand.

Has anybody got any real advice for remedying this Kindle Freeze Screen bullshit?

Hello there /lit/.

I've been thinking about getting a Kindle when the paycheck arrives, I do however have a few questions I would like to ask to the Kindle owners out there.

>How is the library of books on it?

From what I've gathered you can just put any PDF on it if you choose. But have you found yourself missing some of the books you want to read? Many of the ones's i'm interested in can be a little uncommon(I really enjoy ancient academic texts and such).
Also about the store, I live in Sweden. Will it be like the usual thing where all the good stuff will only be available in America?

>Which version?

I'm thinking of getting a Touch if anything. I don't really need 3G since I have wireless.
What are the pros and cons?

>How does it compare to reading real books?

I really loath reading literature on an LCD screen. Does the Kindle screen really feel like reading a "real book"?

>And lastly, from a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your kindle(do you use it, do you like reading on it Etc.)

I would really appreciate some answers.

General discussion about the Kindle is also encouraged.

Got my kindle touch, fits more books than anyone could ever read in one's life.
Now I see the "hard" books on my shelf and think how clunky and bulky they are.
Had /lit/ the same feelings when got an e-reader?

I've acquired one of these a couple gays ago. I have a lot of pirated pdfs and have downloaded a couple thousand .mobi books. I've downloaded and be messing around with calibre and it's a really neat tool to sort files and convert them properly.

My question is: should I worry about amazon tracking down my pirated stuff? Should I avoid sending it to myself though calibre e-mail thingy, should I not keep wireless on? Etc., etc.

Thinking of getting a Kindle.

Being able to decide I want to read a book and then getting it in just a few seconds is invaluable to my literary promiscuity. Also, in-built dictionary and Wikipedia is almost too much for me. Certain writers get me dizzy, going back and forth from my computer and wherever I'm sitting until I end up breaking my neck on the computer chair. Every. Fucking. Time. I also suddenly had this fantasy the other day of, in thirty years or so, when eeeeeveryone has one of these; I can still have my old one from way back, and people'll ask me why I don't get a newer model, and I'll be like, "Because Max is a friend, friend."

I'm thinking of picking up the Kindle Touch. Any reason I should not? Like a new one just around the corner, or because they actually really suck, and I almost became a victim to great PR?

Thanks /lit/.

I'm just sitting around, waiting for my Kindle to show up.

I've never been big on reading. What books would you recommend I download? What are your favorite books?

I was thinking about getting a Kindle for reading non-fiction (particularly challenging scientific readings). I reckon the dictionary and the x-ray reference features would be fantastic for the purpose of helping me through topics I am fairly new to. Does anyone know if the said features would work with illegally downloaded literature? I'm finally beginning to get quite a nice book collection so I really can't see myself stop buying books any time in the near future, and I have zero moral reservations about torrenting copies of books I already own.

tl;dr - do the dictionary and x-ray kindle features work with torrented copies of books?
