It's my favorite Vance series. "Ecce and Old Earth" introduces split point of view, so it's got that and a female protagonist going for it. "Araminta Station" is easily the strongest of the three but there's no reason not to read the trilogy--it isn't like Vance starts tugging at braids and smoothing skirts to fill pages.

Kirdy's madness is the most interesting feature of the series, I feel. Glawen is Kirth Gersen with a little more depth and the development of the characters from teenagers into early adulthood adds interest, bringing the continuous generational replenishment of society into contrast with the alleged stagnation of Charter constraint.

The series also contains one of my favorite Vance quotes:
>Parochialism derives, apparently, from an innocent egotism, which, if verbalized, would express itself thus: “Since I choose to live in this place, it therefore and perforce must be excellent in all its aspects."
