I had the same thing when i was 20. All my life i sort of "knew" that the world was shit and was going to get shittier, but at that moment it truly hit me. It hit me how i couldnt avoid it, how i couldnt say "oh well" and go along with it. Suddenly it felt like everything was pointless, hopeless and irredeemably tainted.
I have tried many things to get some optimism back, but none of it has worked. I prayed to God, tried several religions, tried mindfullness, but i just feel like im in a sterile counterfeit prison and i cannot escape.

Culture is unseen most of the time. It's literally just the shared code of conduct and shared language of a community (using language in a broader sense here, includes shared sense for art, music, etc.). Of course culture wouldn't be progressive, it's an inert mechanism. Technology isn't progress, either, but it's allied with progression because it's a rapidly evolving field, and its tendrils has spread so far into culture that any change that happens to the field of technology inevitably restructures a vast part of society. Tech isn't progress but it enables it to a large extent; The association between the two is strictly wrong but not misinformed, in that sense.
